Poiesis: Street Culture & The Art of the City

  • WaterFire Arts Center 475 Valley Street Providence, RI, 02908 United States (map)

Curated by Melaine Ferdinand-King

POIESIS — is an invitation to commemorate the world around us, treasure the transient, and see the potential for beauty and creativity in even the most mundane spaces.

The Providence Biennial for Contemporary Art will mount its 10th exhibition July 13, 2023 exploring human expressions of commemoration through contemporary art from the lens of two distinct curators simultaneously in the same space. The outcome will illustrate the role of curating as an art form unto itself as well as a portent of social change while also engaging audiences in new and dynamic ways. The exhibition will encompass the whole of the WaterFire Arts Center, complemented by generous related programming while overlapping with The Wilbury Theatre Group's FringePVD Festival.

Opening Reception: Thursday, July 13, 6 - 8pm

Curator Talks: Saturday, July 15, 3 - 6pm

Closing Celebration & Gallery Night: Thursday, August 17, 6 - 8pm
